UK Budget 1996

The pie chart shows some information about the money which the UK government spent in 1996. The amount was around £315 billion which was shared between 10 different categories.

Social security was the biggest amount with £100 billion followed by health and personal social services which had just over half of the first one. Education and debt heritage and environment are coming in the third and Fourth place with £38 billion and £25 billion. The fifth and the sixth categories were other expenditure and defence which were lower by two and three billion from debt interest. Law and order had around £17 billion while housing heritage and environment was lower by £2 billion. The lowest two categories had £13 billion and £9 billion which were industry, agriculture and environment and transport.

If you look again at the pie chart, you will notice that social security had almost a third of the total money that the UK spent in 1996.
